DEAR FRIENDS, WELCOME TO THE 17th EDITION OF TIFF 2019!

Tirana International Film Festival is the most important cinematographic event that takes place in Albania. Not only because is the oldest and most experienced but also for the highest number of applications, selective films’ capability, the rich program, fascinating discoveries and premieres of the most important cinematic films’ market today in the world.


For all mentioned reasons, Tirana International Film Festival was qualified as Festival from  the  Academy of Art and Sciences USA with the right that the winner of Best Short Live Action/Animation to rank in the list from which will come out the Oscar® winner for this categories.


This recognition ranks TIFF among 94 most prestigious festivals in the planet such as: Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Sundance, Tribeca, etc. giving this way a bigger chance to the movies produced in Albania, Kosovo, in the region and not only, to compete for this big Award.


Tirana Film Institute carries out its activities in organizing artistic, cultural and cinematographic film weeks, national and international festivals. TFI is also engaged at all times with film and audiovisual production, design of publicity campaigns, various marketing activities, promotion and film distribution through various shows, screenings and publications. TFI has started a new successful experience as film distributor getting also support from Media-CE.


The rich experience that the staff of TFI disposes allows successfully to organize Tirana International Film Festival in its 17th edition that will be held on September 23 - 29 2019. Submission deadline on June 23 2019.

Being an international film festival we accept all length films submitting online platforms as: FilmFreeway, shortfilmdepot, Reelport, Festhome and Click4Festivals, from all European Countries and around the world, made by prominent or young directors that treat a variety of themes that incite debates for different target audiences.


The International Selection Committee have to suggest more than hundred films in competition for these categories: Feature (all genres), EYE on TIFF (debut feature film competition), Short Live Action, Animation, Student, Video Art & Experimental, Documentary (all lengths), Balkan and In Albanian films.

Besides the competition program TIFF reserves a large space to the special programs and screenings. PANORAMA has some thematic sections dedicated to the most sensitive social topics and problematic social groups as for children, women, immigration, integration of persons with disabilities, LGBT, etc. with those sections: DIVERGENT MINDS; GENERATIONs; NEW WORLD; PARADE .

FOCUS is a special program, which is based on tribute or homage to the cinema author and/or the filmography of a given country. RetrospecTIFF and TIFF Classics brings to the new audience the most prominent national or international authors of the film history.

REFLECTING ALBANIA is the oldest program of the festival, dedicated to the foreign filmmakers who have produced their films in Albania or in Albanian speaking territory. FesTIFFal is a special program with selected films by festival partners.


PICTURE YOUR LIFE, CREATE THE FUTURE

TIFF will continue to have a large space to the special program KIDs, an exclusive program for children from 5-14 age average. This initiative comes as a long-term investment to raise and educate future cinematic audiences with artistic films through acquired projects in Creative Europe for the distribution and promotion of European films.


On the occasion of this 17th edition of TIFF, seven international juries comprised of leading film writers, directors, producers and critics will evaluate and then select the best features & shorts with awards presented on the closing night ceremony.


Official awards consist of a statue and a diploma. The cash prize in TIFF is determined by the available budget. Special awards can be given by organizers, Festival director, sponsors and partners, professional organizations, NGOs, media, etc.


Recipients of the Tirana International Film Festival Best Short Film will be eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film/ Live Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy Rules.
